Yesterday my host had major problems and this site went offline for quite a few hours, today its back, few, I was worried there for a while. Interestingly I contacted the host and they seem to be having the attitude that there wasn’t any problem, did anyone else see the site off line, if you did can you let me know please.

Im not very happy with the provider right now and am considering moving, I fully understand sites do go down from time to time but to say there wasn’t a problem and try to pull the wool over my eyes is not acceptable.

So if anyone else noticed it off line please post here, let me know and give me some ammunition to shoot at them.

Thanks

Yes it had gone down totally, I forget what time it was - I think it was the database/mysql server as there was a page saying something like 'SMF could not connect to the database'.

It's possible that the main site server didn't go down, but the SQL server did - assuming they are separate - so they may think it was okay and have not put two and two together.

Ahh! That might explain it Freddy, for a moment there I thought I had lost the database, now I’ve had time to calm down and think about it I reckon your right, the SQL server is another machine and it had probably got problems. For now I’m going to stick with my host, they have been very reliable for, hmm! 9 years or so, saying that there are cheaper deals to be had these days.

In my experience if they are generally good then I stick with them.  If it happens a lot then maybe think about moving.  Good support makes all the difference to me too.  All hosts have the odd downtime and I doubt we will ever get 100% uptime.
