I’ve been after a new mattress for a while, and decided to a get memory foam one this time, after spending many hours on the web and looking in local shops I finally found a pretty good price for one.

My one is being delivered tomorrow   Tongue

I have a waterbed again, had one in the past which I loved, warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  I had one before and found the new one is made much differently, instead of a large plastic bag to hold water, the new one has some type of foam sides and a thick foam and cloth top covering.  Inside are 5 plastic tubes that hold the water. It looks just like a standard matress when filled.  Spent about a year making an oak frame for the matress.
The memory foam is popular around here, I ran into them quite a few times while looking for the waterbed matress.  Hope you enjoy it, let us know what you think of it.

I never considered a waterbed, often wondered what it would be like to sleep on one, with my cats and their claws it might not be the wisest idea for me, your new one does sound nice though Carl2.

I got the memory foam mattress today,
It came rolled up, so we unrolled it and thought we had been sent the wrong one,
it wasn't very thick/deep,
So we put it on the bed, and left it for 2 hours
Its now about twice the thickness  it was, its grown.  Shocked

Anyway seems to be very comfy, and it came with 2 free memory foam pillows, they also needed a couple of hours to expanded.  It runs in the family  Grin

The real test will be sleeping tonight.

I have a cat and a small dog ( about the size of the cat ) that also use the bed , no problem with the bed but the cat did rip apart the computer chair which was fairly old anyways, probably took about 3 years off it's life.  The matress top is thick enough so the claws don't get through and I have some type of cover over the matress top.
I think over here the memory foam has taken the market away from the people that don't want a convential matress, I had to do a lot of searching to find a waterbed. I should think about the memory foam pillows myself.
  Sleep well

Yawn, good morning  Cheesy

I did have a nice sleep on the memory foam, very comfortable and a new experience.

I think you should go to your local bedding centre and test out a memory foam mattress before you buy, they might not be for everyone, but they get a thumbs up from me.

Now I need to get rid of the old one, buying online means you don’t get the option to have them take the old one away.

Sounds good, glad you like it.  While shopping for the matress I remember one store had a computerized memory foam matress that told you what density of foam you should buy, think it showed how much pressure is at different parts of your body.

I think you make a good point Carl2 about the computerised mattress for checking for the right density. Haven’t seen one in the shops I visited.

We have had this one for a few days, I am very happy with it but my other half who is lighter then me isn’t quite as happy, when I’m lying down I sink into the mattress it feels warm, snug but for her she tends to lie on the top and doesn’t really sink in, its quite odd I’m noticeably lower down when we are both in bed.

I guess it would be the same with most types of mattress, a compromise has to be made to suit 2 people of different weight, but on a memory foam mattress its more pronounced.

I have had a memory foam mattress for about 6 months now and overall I like it.

I am very parsimonious so went for the cheap one £300 instead of £1000 and if I sit up in bed reading it is perfect but when lying down I'm not heavy enough to make a major dent in it.
This is ok 'cos I like a firm mattress but I think the expensive one would support me more but then I'd sink into it more which is a weird feeling. Not to mention I'd get hotter.
I have nearly fallen off of it once 'cos I stand on one corner to reach the window and it compresses so much when you are standing that you roll off.

There were lots of ad's on TV about the memory foam as well as other matresses, thought of an add for an adjustable left and right side of the matress.  Can't recall enough about it as to how it works.
On the memory foam, over here thay say the original makers have a better product in that it will last much longer than the foam used by the other companies.
