  Looking through the gallery and noticed you have a cat, I also noticed your cat has a scratching post.  I've looked at scratching things for cats but I've read too many bad reviews about them,  will you're cat use his, hers?  I've already replaced the computer chair because of the cat.

I think it comes down to the cat really, but I can say that my cats took to it and used it every day.

Just have to clean up the old claws they leave behind every now and again.

If you have a large cat you might want to get a larger scratching post, my tom cat Mutley, who passed away 10 moths ago and I still miss him, was too powerful and could knock it over and move it around the room when scratching it, that’s why I got the extra large one seen next to a standard size post.


If you value your furniture it might be worth getting one  .

No scratching posts needed here, our Cooking Fat just rips the bark clean off all the fruit trees in our garden.

Having three indoor cats (there's also an outdoor cat, too), we more or less had to have something a bit more comprehensive than just a simple scratching post, so mid-June last year, I built the monster in the image, below. Looking at the leg of it on the right-front corner, you can see why.

Ok, this is cheating, I know, but I wanted to show off the new cat a little more.

Kitty looks great Dave, a bit like my Mutley, I think you should maybe up-load that image into the gallery in “Your pets” and any other pics you have too.

And that monster you built looks like “cat heaven” to me

  The cat is just about all black, on the smaller side with short hair and is a companion for the dog.  I take the dog for walks in the warmer weather but the cat stays indoors.  She gets into everything, she will push things around until they fall so the dog can chew on it. 
  I'd trimmed the cats nails once but it's an experience that was bad for both of us.  I'll probably look for a reasonably priced  post with a good return policy incase she won't use it.

Instead of building a computer I decided to build a cat scratching post.  They sell the rope used for cat scratching post so I bought some.  I've got plenty of wood around.  Also got some catnip.  The dog used to like to lay in a cardboard box with some cloth in it so I built a nice cedar box and lined it with cloth,  naturally he will not use it.

I don’t know what it is with scratching posts and the cats I’ve had, for some reason they just know it’s for them and their claws and start using it straight away.

It’s the same with litter trays, put one on the floor with litter in and they can’t wait to poo and pee in it

Thanks, Data. I'm still working on obtaining a fourth pic, but our outdoor kitty, Smokey, seems to know exactly when I have the camera, and makes himself scarce during those times. He's a Russian Blue, just like Missy, but he's built along more muscular lines.

that definitely is a real nice scratching post there. I use to have 2 cats and they would of loved that. I now have a parrot and a dog, a Cockatoo and a Siberian Husky. I now get the to have unscratched furniture, but gained tuns of fur from the dog and bitten up furniture from the bird
