Re: Electric Cars
While I share your mistrust, Data, I think that in the end this will actually be a net benefit for the EV market, as this will give the petrol companies something to transition to from oil, which will also serve to eventually wrest pricing control away from the middle east. With "Big Oil" getting involved on the supply side of things, ICE vehicles will go the way of the dinosaur a bit more quickly, I think. Or perhaps I'm reading this wrong?

Re: Electric Cars
Yes it is possible that you are right Dave, I really hope so, maybe it will push the oil companies to invest in more renewable energy, I guess if they use the profits from their oil to do it then it's not all bad, they will have to do something as the years go by or they too will end up like the dinosaurs.

Re: Electric Cars
From what I've read Shell oil is already making stations for e cars,
"Electric car charging points could appear alongside petrol pumps at Shell’s UK service stations as soon as next year, the oil giant confirmed after emails between the company and government officials revealed discussions on introducing them. date 2016"

Re: Electric Cars
Interesting. Years back people used to say that the big oil companies were suppressing anything that didn't use oil or petrol. Was that all just conspiracy theories or not do we think ? Or was it that it just took time to engineer something usable ?

Yes but it's the cost of the electricity Carl, ok the convenience of charging at a petrol station might be worth a bit but at the moment it's about 3 times the price to charge at Shell compared to charging at home. This is what I have been trying to point out, the oil companies could start to increase the price even more making it no cheaper to run an EV, then people will just keep buying ICE.
Freddy, you didn't watch the video we posted then ?
Who Killed The Electric Car?

I'm not going to say for sure that it was the oil companies, we need to make up our own minds on this.

Re: Electric Cars
I was watching a video about AI and began thinking about the e cars and some of the crashes they have been in using the autonomous mode. Upsetting to think we have given an e car the ability to kill.

Re: Electric Cars
Fully self driving cars are still in their infancy and illegal to use on the roads unless they have special permission, I'm not too worried about it giving EV's a bad name. I personally think all the autonomous modes of driving still have a way to go until they become acceptable to the public in general.
Moving on, this story has been going around the web for a couple of days now:

Re: Electric Cars
Some research has been done here about who does and who doesn't want electric cars, it's not really very surprising but it seems the younger generation are the ones that want EV's.

Half of young people in the UK would like to own an electric car – compared with just a quarter of their parents, a survey suggests.

Re: Electric Cars
Just going to drop the latest Fully Charged news vid in here, apparently the UK broke its solar record this summer (for a little while) with a huge 28% of power coming from solar alone.
