Comfort the Disturbed! Disturb the Comfortable!

Today I came across a video that I found both fascinating and frightening. I'm eager to hear your thoughts.

Just some quick thoughts:

The human brain is still the best computer we know of and we don't fully understand it.

Theory says that we could build a quantum bio computer.

Maybe, just maybe the human brain is already a quantum bio computer, or at least partly.

It might explain some of the unexplainable events we witness in life.

Interesting and yes a bit frightening too.

I like the ideas.

When can I get an implant? When do we become post human?

Dunno, Syber. Sounds a bit like Johnny Mnemonic to me. Smiley

There's a new series on Netflix, called Altered Carbon (WARNING! Not family friendly! Lots of nudity, and simulated sex, not to mention more than a little blood and gore.) that touches on this a little bit, but with an alien twist. The series tells a good, if dark, story and the cast is top notch, with mentionable talent like Matt Frewer (of Max Headroom fame) and James Purefoy (A Knight's Tale). The "organic computing" part is in a device called a "stack", which contains the uploaded consciousness of an individual that's able to be implanted in a host body, clone or "simulant" (an organically 3D printed human body) called a "sleeve". When the sleeve dies, so long as the stack isn't damaged or destroyed it can be placed in another sleeve, allowing that person to live on. The main premise of the series is the examination of the immorality of immortality, and the depths of depravity one can sink to when one can functionally "live" forever.

I like the sounds of Altered Carbon, will check that out. Have read about many similar ideas in various novels inc. Neal Asher (one of my favs) and I'm watching Black Mirror atm. It's more tech driven short stories series with one off episodes. Season 3 Ep 4 - San Junipero is along similar lines.

Post human may sound like death but it is an actual term.
