I found this video, Grand Prix Circuit, I think its one of the very first 3D formula one games ever made, released in 1988, we have come quite some way since then, but then again it was 23 years ago.

So here is a then and now, same track too.

And this one shows a comparison between real life and F1 2010.

PS I didn’t make any of these videos.

Nice.  Really incredible that side by side Smiley

I can beat you though :

1984 for the ZX Spectrum 16K no less.  No video, just screen shots.

There is another F1 game from 1983 for the Sinclair ZX81, but it seems that was overhead as opposed to a 3D effect.

Yeah the side by side one is incredible isn’t it, so very similar even down to how long it takes to do a lap.

I can’t believe I had a ZX Spectrum and didn’t know about that Formula One game though.

Yup you beat me there Freddy. Nice find. Smiley

Or remember this ?  1982 !

It wasn't called F1 but I think that was the intention...Pole Position...I think this might have been in arcades first too.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWMaTi58zv8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWMaTi58zv8</a>

More info : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pole_Position_(video_game)

Graphics look different though, might have been a couple of versions.

Edit : I think the screenshot on WIKI might be the arcade version, it looks familiar to me that.

You’ve done it again Freddy, found an even earlier game, no I don’t remember that one either, but I didn’t have an Atari, it was out of my league in money terms.

Was great watching the video, it did make me grin Grin

I didn't have one either but we could use my older brother's one.  That's where the addiction started Wink

We didn't have this game though but I do remember playing it in an arcade a few times.

Sorry, bad image, but it was the exact same one I bought for my Atari 800XL. Nostalgia...

I loved the old racing games inc. OutRun and Chase HQ.
I used to work in an arcade (Palace pier to us locals or Brighton pier to everyone else) about the time 'hard driving' was out and I'm trying to remember the name of my favorite arcade racing game. It had a hydraulic mono cockpit with seat and monitor built in...

Pole Position came in two versions (1 and 2 funnily enough) and was followed by Final Lap the unofficial third version.

Here's a good wiki on racing games.

And for all you retro heads, here's a game you can play.

GRAND PRIX LEGENDS (aka GPL). The GP season 1967. A game from 1998. For computers with a 3Dfx graphics card. I still often turn mine (W98) on, just for GPL.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgCywLnc6f8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgCywLnc6f8</a>

For this video, the player has disabled the "right arm" option for the gearshift.

Nowadays GPL is a sect, a church, a religion, you know what I mean.  Cool

Nice video GT, I never played that game, does look fun, the cars drifting round corners and the long length of the tracks, I can see why it’s a sect or maybe even a cult game.

I do remember those old 3Dfx cards, I had one, it was a Voodoo, the first real and proper 3D card I had.

Then theres Microprose Grand Prix 1, 2, 3, 4

Here is Grand Prix 1 from 1992,
no 3D card here, all done on the cpu.

I don’t have a PS3 but if I did.

Not as nice graphics as Codemaster F1 2010 but I do like the commentary and the whole TV mode thing.

Oh yes, some differences with the game above. I remember this dashboard very well. So many good memories with MicroProse games, especially plane simulations. I always loved planes, but it's not the right topic (if exists).

And it easier to pilot a Boeing than a Formula One, at least if we don't need to land...

My first simulation, for Atari 800 XL, "Solo Flight", on tape:

Oops sorry, this pic has nothing to do here.

It seems funny now when I think that we used to use tapes to load games,  Grin

I haven’t played any flight sims, I bet some of the latest ones are pretty realistic.

Have a friend that builds real flight simulators, well he doesn’t build them, more part of the team that does.

If you wanted to start a new topic GT, feel free, but then again I don’t mind that you posted it here either.
