While I was quietly playing with Windows 8.1, while I was reading all about the new Windows 9, I suddenly received several emails saying something like that: "Hey! Windows 10 is coming soon, THE ultimate solution".

Oops! No doubt that this one is better but do I need it? Grin

I've seen some windows 9 previews and videos, it looks to me like M$ have decided to rename it from 9 to 10 but they are basically the same thing. maybe they don't like the word Nine as it sounds like German for no, yeah that will be it  Cheesy

According to the article the suggestion is that they went with 10 to show its not a linear progression from 8 and is a new system.......Although I reckon you might be onto something there Data  Wink

I like these stats...

Quote
Across desktop PCs as a whole, only 13.4% currently run Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, according to research firm NetMarketshare.

By contrast, it says 51.2% are powered by Windows 7 and 23.9% by Windows XP, a version that is no longer supported by Microsoft

Just about says it all about win8.

I feel that the next version of windows is basically windows 8 with a bunch of changes to please the masses. I think they are going with the name windows 10 to deceive the masses.

But the Windows 10 name also symbolises that this will not be an incremental update, but something of a fresh start
scratch-head
an actual start menu added, and apps will run inside of a chrome window, and a few other tweaks so t can integrate easily into a phone so they can eventually have Cortana run on a tablets, laptops, and desktops and they call it a fresh start  scratch-head

I guess Microsoft hesitated a lot (at least one second) to name it Windows X (like the OS X from Apple). lol

I hope Windows 10 will normally run applications. I have a lot of apps installed on my PC, but oops (yes, I'm a dummy) just a few programs... Smiley

BTW I read somewhere that Windows 8 jumped to 10, to avoid mistakes with Windows 9X (95,98)! Maybe, maybe not... Grin

Sounds like M$ may be following the example of "what NOT to do" from Chevrolet, in trying to sell the Nova in Mexico ("No va" is "doesn't go" in Spanish) Cheesy

I'm not sure I will try the Windows 10 Technical Preview. Exciting but Microsoft says better to use a specific computer for that.

Wait and see the reports made by some audacious testers. thumbsup

Probably wise GT.

I was thinking how M$ keep trying to invent the wheel, XP gave us a good wheel, Win 7 rounded off the corners a bit better and made it run smoother, then 8 came alone and M$ put the square corners back on it which didn't help many people.

10 looks like it is a nice wheel with some rounded corners, maybe it will even run smooth and fast but most people already have a good wheel with win 7, now what is that old saying ?

If it isn't broke ...

M$, your best bet to get more people to buy 10 is to break all previous wheels forcing us to up-grade  thumbsup

I agree. There's still no reason for me to move on from 7, it's just so solid.

Agreed. Besides, I don't want to have to force yet another OS to conform to my will, only to find that even more control has been wrested from my grasp. I'll bet that Win 10 SP1 will take up 100GB+ on the drive... with NOTHING ELSE installed. Shocked

My son recently bought a new gamer computer (his previous one had a broken disk). With the same Windows 7.

I know, I am the shame of the family. I LOVE Windows 8.1 (a least, for the things I do with it). It runs more and more smoothly. And (believe it or not), despite all the daily updates, the free space on C:/ (small SSD with only 32 GB) is increasing!

About Windows 10, I must wait and see before buying a Surface Pro 3. Yes, another product of Microsoft... Cheesy
