  I ran into a folder which was documents and settings and I found Windows telling me that access was denied.  Since that time I've found several other folders telling me that access was denied.  I will give it a little more detail about this, I installed the solid-state drive and put the operating system on the solid-state drive, the regular hard drive already had an operating system installed on it, the hard drive was disconnected while installing the operating system on the solid-state drive.  After the installation was completed I reconnected the hard drive which works, as I remember I had to install net version 4 to be able to get some of the programs on the regular hard drive to run.  Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.

I don’t think its anything you have done Carl, Windows 7 can be like that even to administrators.

I’ve never seen the “Take ownership” tweak before, looks good to me, haven’t tried it yet but might well do at some point.

  I checked out the links, I did the manual change and was able to set myself as the owner but I'm still unable to open it.  I clicked a link, " Update: This method is not working for most users. Since many folders and files are locked, the only way to access them is to first unlock them using LockHunter."  I've got three folders showing locks on the folders so I think i'd need the unlocker.
  I think I want to move slowly on this, I don't want to loose the os.  You've found some useful links , Thanks.

Usually, taking ownership of the folder is not enough. You also have to add or change the permissions, too. Once you change ownership, go to the Permissions tab, click the button labeled "Change Permissions", and in the window that pops up, click "Add...". Another popup, well, pops up. Type in the account name you wish to add and click "Check Names", then click Ok. Change the permissions field for this new entry to "Full control", and make sure the checkbox referring to replacing permissions on all child object permissions is checked, then press Ok again.. You'll get a confirmation asking if you're sure. From there, I'm reasonably certain that you'll need to go get some tea or something, as this process can take a while, especially if there are a large number of files in the folder. If that fails, I strongly recommend a large, fat chicken, a very sharp knife, and a consult with your local Voodoo priest.

 I came across this shortly after I got my main rig, while trying to find out how to change certain parts of my Os's shell. 

Freddy sorry it did not work or fully work for ya. I hope your able to get the folder you need unlocked. Going slowly is always good, taking time to learn what you are actually doing in-case one needs to undo something
or as you said "loss the os"

Dave for me I did not have to Change any permission for the folder I needed to access, So I did not know of this  learn something new every day

  I tried to put a Haptek text  on the C drive and found I could not do this, I'd tried changing the properties without any luck, I downloaded and tried a program called LockHunter.  It came up with a list of programs that were locking it and asked if I wanted a fix, I agreed and got the blue screen.  I was able to restart but still unable to put the txt on the C drive. Unexpected error.  I did a search for the error code and got a fix that did not work for me.

Where or what folder are you trying to put the text into?

  I'm trying to paste a copy of HapLogCtrl.text directly on the Local Disk (C:) and it can not be done on this computer.  A required privlage is not held by the client. Simple done it many times.

I can think of a couple of things that might get round it, but try this first.

Boot into safe mode and try to copy the file.

  I just gave that a try,  when I tried to copy and paste I got the same error message.

That’s a shame Carl.

I asked you to boot into safe mode because I thought it might be your Anti Virus being over protective, I guess it could still be if your AV starts in safe mode.

So it could be that.

Or you could try running notepad as admin (right click on it then run as admin) and save the file to C:

Or try turning off UAC

    1. Click on the Start button
    2. Type uac
    3. Click on the Change User Account Control settings link when it appears.
    4. Move the control to the bottom (Never notify)
    5. Click on the OK button

I'm still thinking it's an "ownership issue", personally; but changing ownership on drives, folders and/or files can be more problematic than it's worth. I've seen entire systems rendered practically useless by someone who made changes of this type without knowing the consequences. I also suspect that said individuals probably removed certain permissions while they were at it, but I didn't really look before formatting the drive and starting over.

  That worked, I opened the original Hapteklog, copied and pasted it in Notepad ( run as admin)
Saved as ___  on the C: drive, it is locked but I can open it??  That will help me make any changes needed and it will let me see if any problems are found.
  In the C: drive  properties, Security there is: system, Admin, and Carl(Asus\Carl)   all three have full permission.
