It looks like a failure to deploy the solar panels completely was the cause of it to not communicate as all the antenna etc. were underneath the solar panels.

SO close to being a total success, but it has helped subsequent missions in so many ways it could never be judged to have been a failure.

If only Colin Pillenger was still alive to see just how close he came with Beagle2
