Part of it could be that many Americans commute to work involving considerable distances and times.
I used to drive for an hour to get to work, then I might have to drive from 200 to 300 miles in a single day? Just when and where would I stop to get a charge? My work involved various construction sites, bridges, structures, etc.

For many, I believe it just wasn't a practical alternative.

To go on a drivable holiday, that would bring horror to most Americans for fear of not being able to find any charging stations.

It's largely up to the government to institute such stations along with the various vendors, etc. but for now, there are the hybrids (like what I drove). Yes, it made me money and it was extremely roadworthy, dependable and lots of fun to drive! I still have it and use it all the time, now that I've retired from my full-time employment. My company paid me so much per mile to drive my own car rather than for them to furnish me a vehicle!

Maybe one day, we'll come up to speed! (pun, anyway you take it).

New hybrids will be banned in 2035, so 5 years later, at least that is what they are planning. Things might change if we get another government though.
