Re: Circuit of the Americas
Going by the pictures, it looks like it could be finished for next season, I guess time will tell and Bernie has to decide too.
Will be great to have a GP in the USA again, bit of a shame America doesn’t have an F1 team though.
Good find Snowy.

Re: Circuit of the Americas
I found this:
http://circuitoftheamericas.com/progress.html
It indicates completion of the course by next June, and has a time-lapse video of this June's construction progress.

Re: Circuit of the Americas
If its finished in June 2012 then indeed we could have a GP in the USA next year, I do feel however Mr Bernie Ecclestone might be a bit careful what tracks he puts on the calendar, he probably doesn’t want another fiasco of a race not being run, like we had this year.
It’s looking good so far
Thanks for the bit of hunting around there Dave

Re: Circuit of the Americas
I love auto racing in all it's forms, including F1, though my personal favorite is "small town" stock car racing. My Dad used to be the entire pit crew for his best friend when I was 10 years old, and I used to be on a pit crew for a friend of mine, back in the mid-90's. Always wanted to race, as well, but never had the means to break into the sport. Still love to watch, though.

Re: Circuit of the Americas
You have racing in the blood then Dave, its good to know you
, can’t really say that I’ve ever had the privilege to race or be in a pit crew, but for some reason I love F1, I thinks it’s the technology side of the sport that does it for me, you never know what the teams are going to come up with next to make them cars go faster around the corners.
And of course supporting a favourite team and driver makes you feel, in a little way, part of it.
Oh! and congrats on 100 posts

Re: Circuit of the Americas
This track is sheduled for the 17th of June next year.
Source Wiki
.
I've not been to stock car racing for aaaaages. There are 2 local tracks around here, both only small ovals.
Ahhh, the smells of tortoured clutches/brakes and cooking squit dogs (hot dog that'll give you the squits).
The pits at stock car meets are a slightly different affair compaired to F1. More chains, sledge hammers and very bent chassis'.

Re: Circuit of the Americas
WOW! 100 posts? Already? That went by quick!
Thanks for the further info, Snowy. I'd doubt that I'll be able to (I'll still be recovering from my "eclipse party" at that time), but I'd like to go to the inaugural race at the new track. We'll have to see.
BTW, you neglected to mention the rolls of bailing wire and duct tape, and the copious volumes of foul language and practical jokes that abound in the pit areas, too.

Re: Circuit of the Americas
This is still a building site but work has resumed after various wranglings with the FIA.
I hope the track works as well as India.
Here are the latest pics.

Re: Circuit of the Americas
Laguna Seca is a great track but you'd never get an F1 car or USA cart around the corkscrew. Far too much suspension travel required.
It is on the MotoGP circuit though.

Re: Circuit of the Americas
all the way in Texas, too far of a drive for me. I really hope they build one North East from there like say in the New England area sometime soon.
