Angkor Wat has always fascinated me. Often called "The Forbidden City", and populated these days by several species of primates, it has the feel of a deeply mystic, spiritual place, and I'd love to visit it some day.

There is a 2 part series about Angkor Wat on the Beeb. Called "Jungle Atlantis" or "Angkor Wat's Hidden Megacity"

I caught the first part. 2nd next week. I'm sure it's available from a torrent provider near you.

Apart from the copious amount of landmines left behind yes 

They're probably made of plastic parts these days so a metal detector is useless.

The Cambodian civil war went on around the same time as the Vietnam war, so plastic mines weren't available (or even possible) back then.

Good point about the wood thing, but I don't know if the Cambodians used them.
