Eclipse 2017
The eclipse has begun in Salem, Oregon, and will continue over the breadth of the US for about 4 hours or so. Some links where you can see the event in real time:

Re: Eclipse 2017
The eclipse has started here, so I'll be outside for a while. Will be posting pics when I get back in.

Re: Eclipse 2017
I think we were at 92% (possibly 96% - Don't remember), which is pretty close. I'm still looking through the images I took, and will have them posted in a while. My brother and I also shot some video of what we were doing, and that will be going up on Youtube as soon as I get them onto my computer and can get them edited and stitched together. Once uploaded I'll post a link.

Re: Eclipse 2017
I enjoyed the photo's you posted Dave, some nice dramatic shots in there.
I watched it today via Twitch. I've only seen a decent eclipse once in the UK. You are spoilt for choice over there ! When we had one, my mates all went down south as that was where it was supposed to be best. But on the day it was cloudy skies and where I had stayed at home I got a good view of it
They also mentioned a special US stamp during the coverage which changes from eclipse to the moon when heated up. I'll certainly be getting a few of those.

That sounds like an awesome stamp, and well worthy of your collection. Please post pics when you get it, won't you?

Some nice pics there Dave, I even managed to see all the FB images too without being a member, thanks for posting
Like Freddy I saw the one we had here a few years back, I remember it being quite a spooky thing to view, your pics bring back the memories.

Re: Eclipse 2017
I got to see the eclipse today though my welding helmet. I tried taking some picture, but they did not come out well at all.
Dave nice pictures there

Re: Eclipse 2017
Yes it was spooky - it became very quiet and otherworldly.
Here's a page about the stamp :
http://www.abc2news.com/business/consumer/a-hot-commodity-solar-eclipse-stamps-change-with-heat
Part way down is a video that shows the change. The first US stamp to use this ink apparently although I can't say I recall anywhere else in the world using it for a stamp.
I ordered one of the special packs from USPS earlier and am looking forward to receiving a cover dated today (eclipse day) from a chap I know over there who collects too.

Little did I realize at the time that Derek from
Veritasium
was in Madras to view the eclipse.
Here's a short video of his experience:
